Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between coaching (or a coach) and consulting (or a consultant)?

A coach helps clients improve their effectiveness and performance by facilitating insight, learning, and behavioral change. Unlike a consultant, whose role is typically to provide answers and recommendations, a coach helps clients discover and apply solutions that fit their unique circumstances, strengths, and goals.

Coaching is built on deep listening, thoughtful questioning, reflection, and accountability. Through a structured and confidential process, clients gain greater self-awareness, challenge limiting assumptions, and identify actions that lead to meaningful and sustainable results.

Executive coaching is not therapy or counselling. While coaching may explore beliefs, behaviors, and patterns that affect performance, its focus is on helping clients move forward toward specific personal or professional goals.

As a coach, I draw upon a range of evidence-based approaches and assessment tools to support the development process. Ultimately, however, the client remains responsible for the choices they make and the actions they take. My role is to provide challenge, support, perspective, and accountability while helping clients unlock their own best thinking.

Consulting is a broader term. A consultant is a trained professional who offers expert advise and/or services in a particular area of specialty.  HR & leadership consultants are typically contracted to deliver services that may be beyond the expertise of a company's existing staff, or to complete specific projects in a "pair-of-hands" capacity when HR staff' are out of bandwidth. Smaller companies that don't have an HR leader in-house, may place a consultant on retainer to serve as HR director on a part-time basis or as needed.

What is your coaching style or process?

My approach to coaching is a blend of the International Coach Federation's (ICF)-approved ACERA method, and the positive intelligence (PI) method, coupled with appreciative inquiry, and cognitive behavioral coaching.

How do you handle confidentiality?

Confidentiality is of utmost importance in my coaching practice. I adhere to the International Coach Federation's (ICF) Code of Ethics, which includes strict guidelines for maintaining client confidentiality.
